In the category of “Journées du livre européen”, the Jean Monnet Association, together with the Polish Historic and Literary Society, is hosting a roundtable discussion on:
Jean Monnet and Bronislew Geremek embodied the European spirit throughout their passionate engagement to the service of an ideal: the pursuit of unity between European people. They are symbolic figures who brought their contributions to the European construction and can be associated with two major events in Europe’s history during the 20th century. Consequently, it is very interesting and innovative to bring a joint retrospective look on these two great Europeans to better understand their thoughts and acts of service for the European idea and to find shared traits so as to reflect upon the relevance of their messages. It is also important to do this on the occasion of the first Polish Presidency of the European Union, of which one of the objectives is to remind Europeans of the importance of knowing this dual heritage in order to form an inspiring image of the European Union of tomorrow. In a difficult time for Europe with doubts and uncertainty regarding its future, such an initiative seems to be of the utmost importance. .
