The Jean Monnet Association visits Poland
for the Days of Europe 2011

  

On 9 May, all of Europe celebrates “Europe Day”, established to remember the declaration of Robert Schuman, who at the time was the French Minister of Foreign Affairs. Indeed, on 9 May 1950, by this founding declaration drafted by Jean Monnet, his advisor and friend, Robert Schuman cast the first stone of the European construction, which today joins 27 countries within the European Union.

Each year, for the Festival of Europe, the Polish capital is jubilant and, under the impulse of the Polish Robert Schuman Foundation, has a big parade to celebrate the European Union. This large popular outing that has been bringing together all of Europe’s supporters in the heart of Warsaw since 1999 is known as the “Schuman Parade.”

This year, the parade will be held on Saturday 7 May.


For the first time, the Jean Monnet Association will be there and will also have an information table inside the “European Village” where all of the activities will take place and where the participants will gather at the time of the parade.

On Sunday 8 May, a delegation from the Jean Monnet Association will also visit Krakow, the second largest city in the country, to continue the Europe Day celebrations.


On Monday 9 May, a highly symbolic day, we will engage in a private prayer at Auschwitz Concentration Camp.
